It was about a two mile hike from the hotel to the site and this was the day after the first big winter snow storm in February. It was cold and windy! But it was worth it.

I began Marine Corps boot camp the day after Christmas in 1968 and from there went to infantry training at Camp Pendleton where I left as a M-60 Machine Gunner. After a short leave home we came back to go to Vietnam. As we were boarding the aircraft they stopped us, brought us back out, and called out two names. I was one of them. The rest of the Marines in our series boarded and left for Vietnam. I was given a new set of orders to attend Electronic School at MCRD San Diego. After progressing through electronic schools I became a 5941 Aviation Radar Repairman. I was stationed at Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii with MACS-2 from 1970 to 1974.
